Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced five recipients of its ‘Bank Fund 2026’ initiative, which aims to empower local NGOs and support sustainable community development projects across the Maldives.

This year’s recipients are Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu, Unity Sports Academy, Laamu Farmers Association, Blue Guild Foundation and Kalaidhoo Wings.

Dhidhdhoo Kurimagu will use the funding to establish HIVE, a digital innovation and community resilience hub in HA. Dhidhdhoo, providing a dedicated space for digital learning, innovation and community activities.

Unity Sports Academy will restore the freshwater pond and develop the Maamuli Eco Park in Sh. Funadhoo to support environmental conservation and community use.

The Laamu Farmers Association will establish the Fahigovaan Value-Added Agro-Processing Hub in L. Fonadhoo and Gan to support local farmers, livelihoods and climate-smart agriculture.

Blue Guild Foundation will establish a small-scale makerspace at Sh. Atoll School, providing students with hands-on opportunities for creativity, innovation and practical learning.

Kalaidhoo Wings will develop ‘Kalaidhoo Wings Hiyaa’ near the Kalaidhoo Jetty, featuring a waiting area, feeding room, washrooms, a small library and a digital notice board.

Under the annual Bank Fund programme, BML selects five proposals each year to receive MVR 200,000 in funding.

BML has so far supported 14 projects through the Bank Fund, while a further 100 projects received funding under the bank’s previous Community Fund initiative.

The bank said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to empowering local communities and supporting sustainable development across the Maldives.
