Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir has submitted a motion to the parliament which seeks to ban the import and sale of pork and alcohol to the Maldives.
In an interview with 'One Online', MP Jabir confirmed that the motion has been submitted to the Parliament.
In the motion, MP Jabir noted that the Maldives is a 100 percent muslim country and that it should see an islamic governance. He added that the Constitution of the Maldives states that all laws and regulations should be made in accordance to the islamic ways of life.
Hence, it asserted that there should be no room to permit any activities that go against the core values of Islam.
MP Jabir had called for an immediate ban on the import and sale of alcohol and pork, and added that no government should be able to give such a permit in the first place.
MP Jabir's motion comes after a time he had aggressively defended the importance of building casinos in the Maldives.
