Maldives Customs Service has intercepted a passenger attempting to smuggle cocaine into the Maldives by swallowing drug-filled pellets.
Customs said the individual was arrested at Velana International Airport on 19 July.
The suspect is believed to have attempted to smuggle 1,180 grams of cocaine concealed in 66 pellets inside their body.
The seized drugs have an estimated street value of more than MVR 2.9 million, Customs said.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect, and no further details have been disclosed as the investigation continues.
