Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has stated that 633 tons of cargo was sent abroad via sea-to-air cargo services as part of efforts through Velana International Airport (VIA) to accelerate the country's economic growth.

According to statistics shared by MPL yesterday, cargo exported abroad via sea-to-air cargo last month increased compared to the previous month.

Figures show that 633 tons of cargo was exported via sea-to-air cargo services in July. This represents an 88 percent increase compared to the 335 tons of cargo shipped through the service in June this year.

In July, cargo was dispatched from the Maldives to 10 countries via six airlines, which MPL stated amounted to 131 TEUs in container volume.

Statistics publicized on the third of this month by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), operator of VIA, show that last month recorded the highest volume of transshipment cargo exported in the airport's history.

During this period, total transshipment cargo exceeded 2,000 tons, marking a major milestone that shattered all previous records set at VIA.
