The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun repair works on the northern section of the Hulhumalé jetty after it sustained significant damage when it was struck by a barge.

The jetty was temporarily closed on 26 May following the incident. After conducting safety assessments, HDC restricted access to the damaged section until repairs are completed.

HDC said the jetty's structure suffered extensive damage, requiring urgent repairs to ensure public safety.

The corporation added that efforts are underway to complete the work as quickly as possible and reopen the jetty, which is widely used by the public.

HDC apologised for any inconvenience caused during the temporary closure and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public infrastructure and improving services for residents.
