Police Memorial Day 2026 was commemorated on Thursday with a special ceremony at Iskandhar Koshi to honour Maldives Police Service officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan attended the ceremony alongside Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, Deputy Commissioner of Police Farhad Fikry, senior police officials, police officers and police civil staff. A moment of silence was observed, followed by a special prayer in remembrance of the fallen officers.

Observed annually on 23 July, Police Memorial Day was established in 2013 to recognise police officers who die while carrying out their duties.

The commemoration was first held in memory of Police Sergeant Adam Haleem, who was killed in the line of duty on 23 July 2012 while responding to an incident in Kaafu Kaashidhoo. He was the first Maldives Police Service officer to lose his life in the line of duty.
