Elections Commission of the Maldives (EC) has revealed that 76 people have voted so far in the Bar Council Election, which began Saturday morning.

Speaking to 'One Online', EC Member Ahmed Akram noted that one person had cast their vote to the ballot box placed in Addu while 31 and 44 people have cast their vote to the first and second ballot boxes placed in Male' respectively.

Akram highlighted that voting began as scheduled in Male' and Addu. He also added that while voting continues in two locations, no complaints have been submitted thus far.

Voting for Bar Council is taking place in Male' and Hithadhoo. Husnu Al Suood and Maumoon Hameed are contesting for the Presidency of the Bar Council while Former Civil Court Judge Mohamed Haleem and Former Attorney General Abdulla Muizz. In addition to this, 19 lawyers are also competing to become part of the executive committee of the Bar Council.

Voting closes today at 5:00pm, and counting begins thirty minutes later. While tentative results will be announced today, official results of the election will be published tomorrow.
