President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has extended his condolences following the passing of Dr Aminath Fazna, the first Maldivian doctor to specialise in developmental paediatrics.

Dr Fazna passed away at the age of 47 while undergoing treatment for cancer.

In a post on X on Thursday, President Dr Muizzu conveyed his heartfelt condolences to her family, the staff of Dharumavantha Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), as well as healthcare workers across the country. He also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant her eternal peace and blessings.

Dr Fazna studied at the National University of Malaysia and the University of California, United States. She returned to the Maldives as a developmental paediatrician at IGMH and began seeing patients in October 2024.
