Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in June have declined by 12 percent compared to the same period last year.

The latest statistics from the Ministry of Tourism reveal that 125,000 tourists visited the country in June, marking a drop from the 143,000 arrivals recorded in June of the previous year.

So far this year, the Maldives has welcomed a total of one million tourists. This represents an approximate five percent decline compared to the 1.1 million arrivals recorded during the same period last year. The daily average for arrivals currently stands at 5,900 tourists, which is 300 fewer visitors per day than the previous year's average.

Data indicates that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have significantly impacted the tourism sector. Tourist arrivals had previously dropped by 20 to 24 percent in March and April. While May observed a brief two percent increase—a month typically characterized by a dip in European markets and an uptick in Asian visitors—the figures took another downward turn in June.

The government maintains a target of bringing 2.2 million tourists to the Maldives this year and is implementing various measures to strengthen the industry and intensify marketing campaigns to reach this goal.
