The Government will revise its policies to allow a wider range of services to be developed on privately leased land in Hulhumalé Phase II, Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said.
Speaking at the inauguration of the new lifts at Hiyaa Tower 16, Muththalib said the Government aims to turn more than 2,000 plots allocated to Malé residents in Hulhumalé Phases II and III into opportunities for economic development, rather than limiting them to residential use.
He said the current policy requires services such as private hospitals to be built on separate land allocated by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The Government plans to change this so investors can develop such facilities on privately leased plots.
Muththalib said the Government will also introduce policies to address the housing needs of families living in the Hiyaa flats, including creating opportunities for residents to move from two-bedroom apartments to larger homes.
