Former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the progress of the coalition formed by three of the country's former leaders has slowed down.
The alliance, which brings together former Presidents Abdulla Yameen, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, and Mohamed Nasheed, was established with the objective of challenging the current administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and holding the government accountable.
The three leaders had initially agreed on May 15 to work collectively to defend journalism and freedom of expression, while ensuring the government is held answerable for its missteps. Following the signing of an initial accord, they appointed a committee of representatives tasked with formulating operational strategies and timelines alongside a technical team.
However, speaking at a press conference held at the MDP office today, Nasheed admitted that the momentum had decreased significantly after the committee of representatives held just two meetings. Despite the sluggish pace, he clarified that the initiative has not been entirely abandoned.
When questioned by a journalist regarding whether the alliance's efforts were being undermined by President Yameen's repeated public criticisms directed at Nasheed, the former president dismissed the concerns, maintaining that such differences in opinion would not bring their collective work to a halt.
