Maldives Police Service has stated that those who filled in as the Commissioner of Police and Home Minister during the previous governments had also worked to find and extradite Abdulla Luthufee.
Police made the statement in a press release issued on Wednesday night. They added that during the parliament sitting last Monday, Home Minister Imran Abdulla based his statements on visible records.
Police added that they had provided all of their records regarding the case to Minister Imran. Hence, they said that all statements by the Home Minister were in accordance to those information.
Responding to a question from an MP regarding the efforts made by the Presidencies of Mohamed Waheed Hassan and Abdudlla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to find Luthufee and extradite him, the Home Minister said that the efforts of the Maldives Police Service was successful on finding where Luthufee was hiding. Minister Imran said that then Home Minister had verbal interactions with the extradition team and was allegedly not made a priority, ultimately denying the approval for extradition.
However the claim has been refuted by Umar Naseer as well as three former CPs.
