Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a White Weather Alert to a large portion of the country.
The alert covers all the islands from Haa Alifu Atoll to Laamu Atoll and the alert will be in effect until 1 p.m. today. MET Office said that heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected in the area with gusts of wind up to 40 mph.

Weather Alerts are issued in four levels; White, Yellow, Red and Green.
The White Alert is issued to warn caution despite no potential danger while the Yellow Alert indicates possible threat and sea travel is unsafe. The Red Alert calls for immediate evacuation to safety and it is illegal to travel by sea when the alert is in effect. And Green Alerts are issued after the dangers have passed to negate the previously issued alerts.
