A special digital registry for regular blood donors will be introduced this year, according to Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Abdul Razzaq Haleem.

Speaking at an event marking World Blood Donor Day, Haleem said the new system will digitize donor records, making it easier for both blood donors and patients in need of blood to access services.

He noted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare services through digital solutions. The hospital group has already launched an online registration system for children with thalassemia, allowing families to register more conveniently.

Haleem emphasized the importance of blood donation, describing every unit of donated blood as a priceless resource that saves lives. He highlighted its vital role in supporting patients with serious illnesses, hospital admissions, and children living with thalassemia.

He also called for greater awareness and preventive measures to address thalassemia, noting that four children have been born with the condition so far this year. As part of these efforts, the hospital group plans to strengthen counseling services and introduce a dedicated system this year to provide information and guidance on thalassemia prevention, including pre-marital counseling.

Haleem said every new blood donor contributes significantly to strengthening and safeguarding the country’s healthcare system.
