Home Minister Imran Abdulla has said that has said that Abdulla Luthufee (Haajaraage) who led the coup invasion of 3 November 1988, could not be extradited during the Presidency of Abdulla Yameen because then Home Minister, Umaru Naseer did not give the approval.

Responding to a question from an MP regarding the efforts made by the Presidencies of Mohamed Waheed Hassan and Abdudlla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to find Luthufee and extradite him, the Home Minister said that the efforts of the Maldives Police Service was successful on finding where Luthufee was hiding.

And the efforts to extradite him was in the late stages waiting for then Home Minister, Umaru Naseer’s approval.

Minister Imran said that then Home Minister had verbal interactions with the extradition team and was allegedly not made a priority.
