The Maldives have been knocked out of the Diamond Jubilee Football Tournament after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Pakistan in their second match of the competition, held to mark 75 years of football in the country.

Having lost 1-0 to Afghanistan in their opening match, the Maldives needed a victory to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive. However, Pakistan secured a comfortable win at the National Stadium.

Pakistan took the lead in the 53rd minute through Umar Nawaz before Abdul Samad Shahzad doubled the advantage in the 84th minute. Haroon Hamid added a third goal late in the match to seal the victory.

The defeat marks the first time since 1991 that the Maldives have lost to Pakistan. The Maldives will next face Bangladesh’s youth team in their final match of the tournament.
