A revision to the standing order of parliament seeks to deduct salary for MPs who are absent to sittings without a plausible reason.

The revision claims that if an MP fails to meet 50 percent attendance by the end of each month, 50 percent of their salaries should be deducted. Plausible reasons are defined as sick leave and leave. This also includes calling in sick for the same period of time, without a probable reason.

The revision was passed by the unanimous vote of all committee members who participated in the meeting today.

An MP receives MVR 42,000 as their salary on top of an MVR 20,000 housing allowance and MVR 20,000 allowance for participation in committee meetings.
