The UK has lifted tariffs on tuna products imported from the Maldives, a move welcomed by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In a post on X, the President said the decision would strengthen the Maldivian fisheries industry and increase the income of local fishermen. He added that the move would bring positive economic changes to island communities and create more opportunities for Maldivian fish products in the UK market.
Efforts to reduce tariffs on Maldivian fish exports to the UK have been ongoing for the past 12 years under several governments.
President Dr Muizzu also highlighted that the Maldives is globally recognized for its sustainable and responsible fisheries practices
