Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has begun a probe into the police brutality case, where four police officers were found manhandling a suspect.

Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameedh had previously revealed that the officers would be suspended as well.

HRCM confirmed that a case of alleged torture had been lodged with them and that their Rapid Response Team was investigating the case.

"The Rapid Response Team (RRT) of HRCM is investigating a case of alleged torture which had been lodged at the Commission on 05.07.2019," HRCM said in their tweet.

Police revealed that the operation was carried by the Drug Enforcement Department on intel which claimed that a drug trafficking operation was going on at the premises.
