Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure has been fined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by 892,500 for the litter of construction materials to the surrounding ocean during the construction of Sinamale' Bridge.
The Ministry revealed on Wednesday that they had received information of construction dump into the ocean during the construction of the bridge from 2016 through 2018. An inspection conducted into this through MNDF revealed that large portions of scrap metal has been dumped into the area.
EPA has said that according to the EIA of the project, contractors should notify the agency if the EIA was violated in any capacity. They noted that they had not been notified of any such matter and that their inquiries went unanswered as well.
The agency revealed that they have asked the Ministry to pay the fine amount within 30 days.
