Parliament Committee on Public Finance has been tasked with 900 pending audit reports which dates back to the 17th and 18th Parliament Session, according to committee member and Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb.

Speaking during the parliament sitting on Tuesday, MP Ilyas noted that the Committee will probe as to why authorities had failed to take action against issues as suggested by the Auditor General.

While submitting 44 audit reports after they were completed during the Committee phase, Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef asserted that corruption fosters when the advise of the Auditor General falls onto deaf ears, even after compiling such reports.

He added that relevant authorities should take action regarding criminal offences that come to light through these reports and highlighted that such actions have not been taken in the past.

He also noted that there were several hundred more audit reports to be researched by the Committee.
