MP for Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef has called to free Abdulla Luthufee, who was involved.in the invasion attack on the Maldives on 3 November 1988.

With Luthufee living in the Maldivian Embassy in Sri Lanka for a long time and still haven't been brought back to the country, an emergency motion was filed at the parliament today by the MP for Maduvari constituency, Adam Shareef.

During the debate, MP Ibrahim Shareef said that Luthufee when taken for questioning following the attack on Maldives and he had seen, in person, the torture Luthufee went through.

Shareef said that Luthufee is now an old, sickly man close to 70 years of age who has spent a long time in prison. And he has been on the run for about eight years and that too is like living in a prison.

MP Ibrahim Shareef said that as Luthufee has spent a long time in prison, the government should not spend a lot to bring him back to the country.

And since he did not personally kill any of the 19 Maldivians killed in the attack of 1988 and did not shoot at any Maldivians, he did not kill anyone.

Shareef called to free Luthufee based on the time he served and the time he potentially have left.
