State Trading Organization (STO) has announced that an additional shipment of cooking gas will be delivered to Maldive Gas to meet rising demand.
According to an STO media official, the sale of cooking gas is currently being controlled due to increased demand linked to global supply disruptions. The official confirmed that a new shipment of gas is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives on Friday.
Global energy markets have been affected by tensions related to the U.S.–Israel war in the Middle East. The situation has strained access to oil and gas, while the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran has disrupted a route that carries about 20 percent of the world’s oil.
Despite the pressure on global supplies, STO said the price of cooking gas will remain unchanged. As of now, a 10-kg cylinder will continue to be sold at the current regulated price with 5-kg gas, the official said.
STO also stated that another shipment of fuel is expected to arrive in the Maldives later this month. Officials expressed confidence that gas supplies will continue to be managed to meet demand.
