Speaker of Parliament and Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that 1988 coup conspirator Abdulla Luthufee voluntarily presented himself to the Maldivian embassy in Sri Lanka one day before the Sri Lankan terror attacks last April.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, President Nasheed noted that Luthufee who had escaped on the lies of medical treatment in Sri Lanka, presented himself voluntarily to the Maldivian Embassy one day before the terror attacks of April 21.

Even though President Nasheed claims this, Maldives Police Service had previously stated that Luthuffee presented himself to the embassy on June 01.

President Nasheed asserted that there were various challenges in communications between both governments following the terror attacks, however noted that all was good between the two island nations.

Luthufee was allowed to travel to neighboring Sri Lanka on 16th January 2010 for medical purposes during former president Mohamed Nasheed’s administration. However, he went into hiding during the trip and has been residing in Sri Lanka for the past nine years as a fugitive.
