Local telecom giant, Dhiraagu has introduced Gigabit internet speed for the first time in the Maldives.
The service was introduced today at a special ceremony held at the Dhiraagu Head Office by the Minister of Communication, Science and Technology, Mohamed Maleeh Jamal.
This new service is ten times faster than the 100 Mbps service currently provided by the company though a special router for the service.
At the ceremony this morning, Dhiraagu announced that the service will be available in Male’ City, Vilimale’, Hulhumale’, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Gan and Funadhoo in Laamu atoll along with Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi and Baa atoll Eydhafushi.
The new service introduced under the “Digital Raajje” campaign is going to speed up the internet service in schools and offices.
Speaking at the ceremony, the CEO and Managing Director of Dhiraagu, Ismail Rasheed said that the service is currently available in a very few countries. And it was introduced was introduced with the feedback of business customers.
Minister Maleeh said that “Digital Raajje” campaign can end the trend of Maldivians coming to the capital for government services. He said that the government is working on establishing a desk for all general services.
