Economic Minister, Fayyaz Ismail has said that the government wants to serve the people and every island must have an ATM.

Minister Fayyaz made the statement on Thursday following the at remarks made by the members of the panel discussion during the convention of government companies held at Dharubaaruge.

Many members on the panel, including Minister Fayyaz expressed their thoughts on the standard used to measure the development of the government companies. And so, members noted that the success is currently determined by performance and profit but it is sometimes not the best approach.

Members representing the national bank said that some services are essential yet expensive investments however, they receive phone calls every day when those services are delayed. And said that in some instances, profit is not evidence of how well a company is run. Highlighting that installing ATMs is also an expense, they said that such investments must be taken into account when valuing a company’s performance.

Speaking on the panel, Economic Minister, Fayyaz said that if company profits have to be sacrificed on some level to provide services to the people, the current government is ready to do so.
