Gender Minister Shidhaatha Shareef has been summoned to the Parliament Committee on Human Rights and Gender, over the case of Shaim Abdulla who went missing while he was under state care.

Parliament revealed that the Minister has been summoned to the Committee meeting scheduled for 9:00pm tonight.

Shaim went missing while he was in the Orphanage at Villingilli, on June 18.

During a press briefing held last Thursday, the Minister had shared a detailed history of Shaim and reports of him with the media, leading up to June 18.

As such, she noted that the first reported case of the boy was nine years ago, and added that cases have been reported ever since. She also added that Shaim was brought under state care, after an operation by the Police where he was discovered in a environment of crime.

This has sparked some major criticism from the general public, who claim that the Minister had violated the child's rights.
