Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed has said that the International Maldives Travel Market 2019 (IMTM) is going to greatly refresh the Maldivian tourism sector.

In an exclusive interview with One Online on his visit to Farukolhufushi today to observe the IMTM 2019, Minister Waheed said that such fairs offer the chance to open the opportunities in the tourism sector to the foreign countries.

He said that hosting events are always a challenge in the Maldives and so the government would work to find opportunities to host events in the Maldives.

“Even Dharubaaruge is also old and used. So the government’s relevant institutes are proposed to gain more opportunities to host events in the country.” The Tourism Minister said.

Minister Ali Waheed said that the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) tourism the ministry is working to introduce to the Maldives is going to attract special vacations and board meetings of foreign companies. And while 16 legal amendments are in the works to benefit the industry, the changes will be made and translated to English within the first year of the administration.

The Tourism Minister said that fairs such as the IMTM encourage and strengthen the government and express his gratitude to the IMTM.

Over 50 leading tour operators and agencies are taking part in the IMTM 2019 along with various parties from 25 different countries in the two-day event.
