President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the continuation of the services of Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) is a policy of the government.

President Solih said this in a tweet sent out on Wednesday. In his tweet, the President said that the government will not close any opportunities that are there to seek knowledge and attain studies.

During the Parliament sitting on Monday, Thulhadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain said that the Islamic University could be run more affectively as a faculty of Maldives National University instead of being run as a separate university. It has drawn quite a lot of criticism from the public.

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom had also expressed his concern over the matter as well. He took to twitter to say that the existence of an Islamic University was vital in spreading Islamic knowledge in the Maldives.
