The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Development has announced that the online portal for housing and flat applications will open at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
In a statement issued today, the ministry said the portal will open next week to manage the expected high number of applications for land and flats in the Greater Malé Region. The housing policy has now been published in the Government Gazette.
Under the policy, applications have been opened for 15,000 land plots in Rasmale’, with each plot measuring 1,250 square feet. Of these, 7,000 plots are allocated to individuals registered in the Malé residents’ register from birth, while 1,000 plots are for those registered on the Malé Residents’ Register. An additional 2,000 plots are allocated to residents registered in Malé City.
The policy also includes 3,000 plots for residents of other islands who have lived in Malé City for at least 15 years. This includes 500 plots for individuals without inherited property and 1,500 plots for those affected by inheritance.
In addition, 7,500 housing units will be leased. Of these, 4,000 units are allocated for Malé residents and 1,500 units for residents from other islands living in Malé. The remaining units are reserved for government employees, private sector workers, persons with disabilities, and low-income families.
