Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath has said that a revision will be submitted this week, to increase the Supreme Court bench to seven justices.

Even though the Supreme Court included seven justices before, the number was reduced to five in 2014.

Speaking during a press briefing regarding the launch of government's legislative agenda, the Attorney General said that the Bill on revision to the Judicature Act of Maldives will be submitted to the Maldives, which seeks to increase the Supreme Court bench to seven justices.

The Attorney General noted that 201 Bills are included in the legislative agenda for the presidential term from the year 2018 to 2023. These includes acts that need to be dissolved for being too outdated and laws that need revising to help avoid exploitation of loopholes in the Constitution.

Speaking about the revision to the JSC law, AG Riffath said that the main reason behind these big changes were ensuring that the Presidential pledge of judicial reform was done justly, and smoothly.
