Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has announced that land reclamation for Hulhumale’ Phase 3 is expected to be completed by the 20th of this month, marking a major milestone in the long-running project.

At a press conference at the President’s Office, the Minister said reclamation work is progressing rapidly, with 47 hectares reclaimed out of the planned 63 hectares. Registration of land is scheduled to begin in January, followed by the handover of plots in line with government decisions.

The Hulhumale’ Phase 3 reclamation is being carried out by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Work on the project resumed on August 10 after being previously halted and has since been accelerated with the deployment of an additional dredger.

Following the completion of Hulhumale’ Phase 3, the dredgers will be reassigned to Giravaru Falhu. Land plots from Phase 3 are expected to be handed over starting next month.

MACL has also commenced reclamation work on Rasmale’, using one of the world’s largest trailer suction hopper dredgers. Reclamation of Rasmale’ began on November 1 and is expected to be completed by March or April.

Rasmale’ is a key housing project of the current administration, with plans for 25,000 housing plots. Of these, 10,000 plots will be allocated to Malé residents, while 3,000 plots will be allocated to long-term residents of islands within Malé City. The plots are expected to open next month.
