Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded a land reclamation and beach protection project in GDh. Faresmaathodaa.
The agreement was signed at a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure. The contract was signed by Minister Dr Abdullah Muththalib, while MTCC was represented by Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed.
Faresmaathodaa, which has a population of around 1,800, has faced long-standing housing shortages. MTCC said the land reclamation project will increase the island’s land area and help provide housing for residents. The company added that the coastal protection works are expected to significantly reduce sea and tidal erosion.
The project includes the reclamation of 18 hectares of land and the construction of 620 metres of revetment. Valued at MVR 142.67 million, the project is scheduled to be completed within 270 days.
