President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday stated that recipients of the High Achievers Scholarship will now be able to choose from an additional 36 countries to study in,

President Solih made the remark during the ceremony held to award the High Achievers Scholarship and Presidential Scholarship for students who performed exceptionally during the 2018 A-Level Examinations.

The President noted that prior to this, recipients of the Presidential Scholarship had to pursue higher studies from a set of fields decided by the government. However, with newly made changes students will now be able to choose field of study and country of their own.

According to him, the government had also brought changes to the High Achievers Scholarships to allow them to study in a range of new countries. He revealed that recipients of the scholarship can now choose between OECD Countries to pursue their higher studies.

President Solih stressed that the changes were important in building up responsible youth for the country and asserted that even though they are students, they still play a great role in building the nation.

He further added that such changes are not being brought to the education sector in an attempt to fulfil presidential pledges but in their bid to truly develop the country. On this note, President Solih shared his belief that a country develops with the celebration and acknowledgment of individual growth and that the development of knowledge in turn contributes toward the development of the nation itself.
