A prison officer from Maafushi Prison has sustained various injuries after an inmate attacked the officer on Thursday.

Speaking to 'One Online', Media Officer of Maldives Correctional Service Ahmed Naseem revealed that the officer has been brought to Male' for treatment after an inmate attacked him.

Naseem added that the inmate had attacked the officer while a check on a cell was being carried out by several officers. The extent and details of the injuries will be clear once the officer is treated.

He also denied allegations that inmates in Maafushi Prison were being tortured.
