Tourism Minister Ali Waheed has revealed that by May 2019, over 700,000 tourists had visited the Maldives.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Ministry on Thursday, Minister Waheed highlighted that a total of 749,614 tourists had visited the island destination by May. He added that the figure was an increment of 18.4% in comparison to the same period the previous year.
He further noted that statistics for the month of May revealed an increase of 10.9% in tourist arrivals when compared to May 2018. As such, in 103,022 tourist arrivals were recorded in May 2019.
The Minister had also shared the top tourist markets to the media, during the press briefing. China remains as the top market while Italy, India, Germany and the United Kingdom fill out the top five spots respectively.
The Tourism Ministry publishes monthly statistical data on tourist arrivals.
