Supreme Court Judge, Abdulla Didi and his legal team has requested that Masthoor Husni, Ibrahim Riffath and Hisaan Hussain resign from the Judicial Service Commission’s (JSC) committee investigating the discipline case against the Supreme Court Judge.
Responding to a question from the JSC, the defence panel said that the case was filed by the Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed, who is a member of the JSC, and as Judge Didi has previously passed a sentence against him, and the three members on the investigative committee represented the former President in that case, they have a vested interest in the case. And they requested that all three members resign from the investigative committee.
However, the Vice President of JSC, Masthoor said that he won’t resign from the committee despite their point of view. MP Hisaan Hussain said that the committee investigation is connected to a police investigation and has no personal vendetta against Judge Didi.
Judge Didi sentenced former President Mohamed Nasheed after the Chief Judge of the Criminal Court, Abdulla Mohamed was arrested during the Nasheed Administration.
The Investigation Committee by the JSC consists of the Vice President of JSC, Masthoor Husni, Attorney General, Ibrahim Riffath, Judge Uz. Mohamed Eesafulhu, the Parliament appointee to the JSC, the MP for Thulhaadhoo constituency, Hisaan Hussain and the President of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Ali Shameem.
