President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has highlighted the Government’s commitment to improving waste management and upgrading harbour facilities in ADh. Omadhoo, underlining these as key components of the island’s development plans.
During his visit to Omadhoo as part of his tour of South Ari Atoll, the President met with local residents and community leaders, where discussions focused on addressing longstanding issues related to waste disposal and harbour infrastructure.
The President noted that the administration aims to establish an organised waste management system to enhance environmental sustainability and public well-being. He added that comprehensive solutions will be implemented to modernise the harbour and ensure it meets the needs of residents and the growing number of visitors to the island.
He emphasised that significant progress has already been made in the area of waste management and that efforts are underway to resolve related challenges in collaboration with the private sector. The Government, he said, will also ensure that the harbour development is designed to withstand future demands, providing safe and efficient access for fishing and transport vessels.
The President reaffirmed that these projects are being closely monitored by the Government and that measures will be taken to accelerate the work to ensure timely completion. He stressed that the ongoing improvements will directly benefit the community by creating a cleaner environment, better infrastructure, and more opportunities for local livelihoods.
