MTCC, the contractor for the Boduthakurufaanu Magu north side development project in Malé, has announced that 50 percent of the quay wall capping concrete work in segment one of the project has been completed.

The actual work of widening, asphalting, and developing the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Malé began on August 21 last year.

The company said yesterday that under this work, while the storm water management system work is ongoing, the outfall pipe laying has been completed, and the pumping station work is currently in progress.

"This revolutionary project will make Malé's roads easier, creating more convenient roads for pedestrians. Widening the roads will reduce traffic congestion, decrease flooding during heavy rains, and provide safer infrastructure for road users," MTCC said.

MTCC was awarded the contract for MVR 144,509,024.16 (144.5 million), to be completed within 455 days.

The main works planned under this project include:

Widening the north side of Boduthakurufaanu Magu to four lanes.Asphalting 830 meters of road (from Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal to Local Market).Construction of sidewalks and establishment of a drainage system.Installation of road markings and signboards.After assuming office, in his first official trip to China, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated in a media statement that the largest expenditure from the MVR 130 million dollar grant aid from China would be allocated to the road development project in Malé.
