According to statistics from the Tourism Ministry, 1,520,699 tourists had arrived in the Maldives by yesterday.
This represents a 9.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. During this period last year, 1,386,554 tourists visited the Maldives.
The statistics show that an average of 6,000 tourists arrive in the Maldives each day.
China remains the top source market for tourists to the Maldives. Russia is in second place, while the United Kingdom is the third largest source market.
67 percent of tourists who came to the Maldives stayed in resorts. Guesthouses were the second most popular accommodation type, accounting for 24 percent of tourists. 5 percent of tourists stayed on safari vessels, while only 4 percent stayed in hotels.
Currently, 64,138 beds are being used for tourism purposes in the Maldives.
Last year was the first year in the 52-year history of Maldives tourism that two million tourists arrived within a single year. The government's target for this year is to attract 2.3 million tourists.
