Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, CEO of Malé City Group of Hospitals, has stated that the Maldives Blood Services (MBS) is working on arrangements to provide DNA testing.

Speaking at a ceremony held today to open a "Thalassemia Patient Care Center" at Orange Hiyaa to provide assistance to thalassemia patients, Haleem said that among the important projects decided for this year and next year, the budget has now been allocated to introduce the most special tests of modern medical technology established to control thalassemia in the Maldives and ensure safe blood health security.

Haleem said that DNA testing will be included among the special tests of modern medical technology established through these projects, and this will also be an important test to reduce the proportion of thalassemia patients.

Haleem also noted that much work has been done since the Maldives Blood Services and the Thalassemia and Other Hemoglobin Center were handed over to the Malé City Group of Hospitals on May 8 this year.

"I am pleased to note that with the recruitment of technical staff that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided to increase during last August, services will be further expanded by November 2025," he said.

Haleem further stated that by increasing the number of staff, an important and essential service will be provided to those in need of assistance among thalassemia patients living in the islands. He also said that this would fully achieve the purpose of the Thalassemia Control Act.
