Home Minister Ali Ihsaan has stated that no journalists were arrested during yesterday's protest related to the Media Regulation Bill submitted to the People's Majlis.
After protesting at the Majlis building regarding the Media Bill, journalists gathered and demonstrated in front of the President's Office and Muliaage. To disperse the gathering, some journalists were put in jeeps yesterday but were later released.
In response to this, former President Mohamed Nasheed posted on X this morning calling for the release of journalists arrested from yesterday's protest. Replying to this post, Ihsaan stated that although journalists clearly violated the law yesterday, no journalist was arrested.
"Journalists were protesting in a green zone (in front of the President's Office and the President's residence),), and while this is illegal, the police have removed some journalists from the area after giving verbal warnings and instructions multiple times," Ihsaan said.
Ihsaan has especially urged those in high positions to refrain from spreading false information.
