Parliament has approved Ahmed Magsoom as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The decision was made at an extraordinary sitting held on Wednesday, where Magsoom’s nomination received 58 votes in favour.
Magsoom was among three nominees for the Commission, alongside Ameera Naeem and Uz Fathimath Nafath Abdul Wahhab. Their names were announced in Parliament last week and reviewed by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Rights and Gender.
Two current members of the HRCM will see their terms expire on 8 September 2025. Commission members serve a five-year term and are nominated publicly. All appointments require parliamentary approval before being formally confirmed by the President.
