Ooredoo has introduced eSIM to the Maldives for the first time.

At a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge today, the eSIM was officially inaugurated by the Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed.

Ooredoo Maldives said that the service is available in select countries for customers on Prepaid, Postpaid and Tourist plans that supports the latest phones. The telecom company said that the service can be used with iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS R and Google Pixel 3.

The eSIM service can be used by any phone that supports the service providing customers up to nine contact numbers. Ooredoo said that the service is convenient for businessowners and individuals who are using multiple numbers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Ali Waheed said that the service would allow tourists to acquire a SIM card before arriving and activate it once they are in the country for 4G+ service.

Talking to One Online, the Assistant Manager of Public Relations at Ooredoo Maldives, Noora Ibrahim Zahir said that the biggest perk of the eSIM introduced today would be for the opportunity for travelers arriving in the country to acquire a SIM card before arrival and activating it by simply turning on their phone once they are in the Maldives to connect the Ooredoo network.

She said that the eSIM will be supported in the next gen phones that are coming to the market.
