The land reclamation work for the airport in AA. Mathiveri has begun today.

The work was inaugurated in a ceremony held in Mathiveri today by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his ongoing trip to Ari Atoll North. The ceremony was attended by President Muizzu, Finance Minister Moosa Zameer, State Minister of Finance Hussain Imran Abdul Muhaiminu, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Mathiveri constituency MP Hassan Zareer, and Mathiveri Island Council President Ahmed Aslam.

The contract for land reclamation and airport development in Mathiveri was awarded to MACL last night.

This contract was awarded during a meeting President Muizzu held with the people of Mathiveri last night.

The agreement was signed by State Minister Hussain Imran on behalf of the Finance Ministry and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed on behalf of MACL.

The announcement to find a party to develop Mathiveri Airport was made in May this year. The airport development was announced under a "cross-subsidy" model.

The project includes developing a 1500-meter long and 30-meter wide runway, taxiway, apron, passenger terminal, fire station, and airport roads.

The plan is to reclaim 26.5 hectares of land from Mathiveri lagoon.

Speaking in Mathiveri last night, President Muizzu said that the land reclamation and airport development work would be completed within two and a half years.
