The government has announced plans to develop and operate a tourist resort in Farumuli, a newly designated tourism zone in Noonu Atoll.

A directive issued by the President today formally declared Farumuli separate from Maafaru Atoll, under powers granted by the Decentralisation Act. The island has been allocated for tourism development under the Tourism Act.

The Ministry of Tourism has invited bids for the project, which includes the reclamation of up to 15 hectares and development within a 71.18-hectare forest area.

Virtual information sessions will be held at 10 a.m. on July 18 and to August 21, and interested parties must register by emailing [email protected] by July 17 to August 20 at 12 noon.

Bid documents can be obtained via the Ministry’s website or in person at Velanaage (5th Floor) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on working days until September 9. The deadline to submit bids is 10 a.m. on September 10.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is scheduled to begin a three-day visit to N. Atoll soon, during which he will inaugurate the expanded Maafaru Airport and visit several islands.
