Staff have been trained to operate the passenger boarding bridges at the new passenger terminal of Velana International Airport (VIA), which is set to open on the 26th of this month.
A passenger boarding bridge is a bridge that connects the terminal to the aircraft for safe boarding and disembarking. This bridge allows passengers to move directly between the terminal and the aircraft without the need for buses. This is a new service being introduced in the Maldives with the new terminal.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said today that 46 staff members have been trained to operate these passenger boarding bridges so far, with 14 of them receiving training in Malaysia.
The purpose of these training sessions is to familiarize the staff with industry standards and best practices, as well as to teach them the skills needed to operate the boarding bridges safely, according to MACL.
MACL also stated that the staff who participated in the training have completed simulator exercises before operating the actual passenger boarding bridges.
MACL's goal is to use the staff trained in Malaysia to train additional employees to operate the passenger boarding bridges in the future, the company informed.
