The Maldives has been elected as Chair of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission of South Asia.
Tourism Minister, Ali Waheed took to Twitter to make the announcement today stating that the last time Maldives was elected as Chair was for the 1995-1997 period.

While the Maldives have been elected as the Chair of the UNWTO South Asia, the country have taken part in a regional meeting of the organization. Topics of discussion at the meeting included sustainable growth of tourism and improving the quality of life for the local communities through tourism.
