Five new committees have been established in the 19th Session of Parliament, bringing the total number of committees to 17.

Previously there were 13 committees in the Parliament. That was as per the old standing order of the parliament. However, the Committee to Formulate Standing Orders decided to establish five new permanent committees. The decision to increase the number of committees were passed with the votes of 77 MPs.

The new committees include; Committee on Decentralization, Committee on Judiciary, Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Committee on Human Rights and Gender along with Committee on Foreign Relations.

In addition to this, some committees have been renamed and reshuffled. As such, Committee on National Security is now Committee on Civil and National Security. The Committee on National Development has been renamed to Committee on National Development and Heritage as well.
