Government has announced a monthly compensation of MVR 9,000 for the families of those martyred in the terror attack on November 3, 1988. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made the announcement during a ceremony at Dharubaaruge on November 3, 2024.
In addition to financial support, the President revealed plans to build a special housing project named Shaheedhunge Hiyaa. This building, with 50 housing units, will be provided to the families of those who lost their lives defending the country. The initiative aims to support 29 individuals, including soldiers, police officers, and civilians, who have died in various incidents over the last 40 years.
The President's Office has also introduced a policy outlining compensation for families of soldiers who died in the November 3, 1988, war, as well as those recognised for extraordinary bravery. According to the policy:
- Families of soldiers martyred in the November 3 terror attack will receive MVR 9,000 per month.
- Individuals awarded the Huravee Gold Medal for bravery will also receive MVR 9,000 per month.
- Those awarded the Huravee Silver Medal will receive MVR 8,000 per month.
- Individuals recognised with the Colour of Bravery will be paid MVR 6,000 per month.
The compensation to those who have been awarded medals will be provided as long as the recipient is alive. Should the recipient pass away, the Defence Ministry must be informed within a month.
